OEGH Meeting during Czech Presidency of EU Council
A meeting was held in Prague on November 30, 2022 during the Czech Presidency, in partnership with the Czech Medical Association. One focus of the Czech Presidency was the reinforcement of Governance and Funding mechanisms to stimulate innovation in various areas where One Health is implicated. During the session, recommendations were adopted and included in the Prague Amendment to the One Europe for Global Health Declaration, including the place of Youth, the One Health paradigm, the health impact of Climate Change issues, and reinforcement of Governance and Financing.
The Czech Governmental was represented by Mr. Jakub Dvořáček, Deputy Minister of Health. It is noteworthy that the preparation of the revised EU Global Health Strategy took place during the EU Czech Presidency. Further, the official presentation, was on the same day as the event in Prague. The Deputy Minister spoke to the process of adaptation of the EU Global Health Strategy. He has stated that all these initiatives clearly show that a strong political commitment at the highest possible level can bring tangible results leading to better health for all.
The main intention and additional value of the Prague event was to bring youth and the young generation on board. The representatives of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) Czech Republic, invited on behalf of medical universities´ students, have expressed their readiness and willingness to be part of this initiative, emphasizing the importance of inviting youth to the table at all levels, whether it is local, national or global. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow and through these discussions and debates all can learn, via sharing insights and opinions.
The event organized in Prague, was also the occasion for the Czech Medical Association (CzMA) to officially join the OEGH coalition.The Letter of Commitment to One Europe for Global Health has been signed. The CzMA thus has agreed to become an active member of the coalition to contribute to its ideas, philosophy of the holistic approach of health while supporting concrete activities. The example of the CzMA may serve as inspiration for other interested institutions who are not indifferent to the future of European and Global health.
