The objective of this workshop is to discuss the necessity to adapt and strengthen European global health strategy to better align with One Health priorities and the SDGs while stimulating innovation in global cooperation. The updated EU Global Health Strategy should enable an integrated and complementary policy-making process by EU member states and multilateral organizations like the WHO. The new EU Global Health Strategy should also outline how it will establish equitable partnerships with non-European stakeholders, with particular care to the Global South. A post-Covid Europe must be focused on one health for all and must speak with one voice on global governance for health.
The mission of the One Europe for Global Health coalition is to improve and integrate Global Health and One Health priorities into European policies, strategies and actions by engaging European civil society and convening actors from all sectors.
The One Europe for Global Health coalition stems from the Lyon Consolidated Declaration for a European Health Union, signed on February 8th, 2022, by several members of the One Sustainable Health (OSH) Forum at the occasion of the European Ministers of Health and Foreign Affairs meeting in Lyon during the French EU Presidency. The principles outlined in the Declaration are to make a long-term commitment now for future generations, act locally while thinking globally, come together in equity and solidarity, limit silos with more intersectoral cooperation, and commit to good governance for a European Health Union. This workshop will be followed by a high-level side event at the WHS 2022 in Berlin, whose results and recommendations will be followed up by meetings in Prague and in Stockholm under the auspices of the Czech and the Swedish Presidency of the European Council of Ministers.
